Hey all, as April starts to come to a close I wanted to share with you the spoils of the month from the Simply Earth Monthly Recipe Box. This months theme was cleaning with recipes for oven cleaner, hand soap, dish soap, and laundry detergent (in sheet form). It also includes the standard roll-on blend and and diffuser blend recipes as well. So since the recipe box only sends you sample sizes I used some of the ingredients to double some recipes. The recipes I have not tried yet are the dish soap and the oven cleaner. Due to my excitement over the new recipe box I started playing with other recipes prior to my April box coming in which I’ll also talk about in this blog.

Let’s start with whats in the box. The essential oils included are Orange, Homebody Blend, Clean & Fresh Blend, and Black pepper. Homebody essential oil is a blend of Ho Wood, Amyris, & Vetiver essential oils giving it a warm and woody smell. Clean & Fresh is a blend of Fir Needle, Lemon, Grapefruit, & Neroli Essential Oils giving it that outdoorsy and citrusy aroma. The other ingredients included in this months box are a small bottle of Castile Soap, 2 Laundry Detergent Sheets, a Dishwasher Cleaning Tablet, and a Swedish Dish Cloth along with a sheet of stickers (included in every box).

Spic and Span Diffuser Blend

First recipe, because I love the simplicity, is Spic and Span Diffuser Blend. So I believe there is a consistency here in which the diffuser blend recipes each month contain a little bit of every essential oil included in that recipe box. What that means is that the recipe is made up of Homebody Blend, Clean & Fresh Blend, Black pepper, and Orange essential oils. The biggest ingredient in this blend is Homebody so there is a strong earthy scent to this blend. Honestly its a great grounding blend and perfect for spring with the hints of citrus. Its like bringing the earth back into your house and reminding you that summer is on its way!

Up & At ‘Em Roll-On Blend

Unlike the diffuser blend, the roll-on blends only have a couple of essential oils in it. This particular blend includes Homebody Blend and Black pepper. So again you get that grounding scent with a little kick from the black pepper to get you motivated to get up and get moving.

Homebody Foaming Hand Soap

For this recipe you need a Foaming Hand Soap dispenser which is not included in the box and distilled water. Since the recipe only filled this bottle up about halfway I decided to double up the recipe. What this means is that the limited amount of Castile soap that was included in the box got used up on one recipe so I was unable to make the dish soap recipe. I got lucky with the distilled water since my significant other uses a CPAP machine he always has a gallon of distilled water available. All you need for this recipe is Castile soap and the Homebody Blend essential oil from your box mixed with distilled water and poured into the Foaming Hand Soap dispenser. With use, once the initial foam gets rubbed in, there isn’t any suds. Don’t worry, it’s still working though!

1-2-3 Laundry Sheet

This is definitely, hands down, the simplest recipe so far. The Laundry Sheets are already supplied for you so all you have to do is put a few drops of the Clean & Fresh Blend onto the Laundry Sheet and pop it into the washer drum with your laundry. In all honesty, my clothes smelt amazing and fresh. Usually I use Tide, but seriously, these made my laundry smell amazing. Not just because of the oils but they smelt fresher and cleaner. The box only includes 2 sheets and they are not currently available for purchase. With that being said, I decided to make my own laundry detergent. I got a recipe from my mother in law and its working really well. Instead of using the whole bottle of essential oils, I add 5 drops of oils to some vinegar and add that to the bleach dispenser. I use vinegar as a laundry softener and it does great at refreshing my laundry! I’ll do another blog about the laundry detergent that I made.

Dish Tab Oven Cleaner

Clean & Fresh Dish Soap

These are the two recipes that I have not tried. For the Oven cleaner it required me to dissolve the provided dish tab and use the mixture to scrub the oven. When I ran out of dishwasher pods recently I decided it was time to start making my own dishwashing detergent. So when I got an email from Simply Earth stating that they are going to be creating their own dishwashing tablets and one of them was in my monthly box I decided to try it in the dishwasher to see if I loved it. Well I did! It worked very well, my dishes smelled amazing and came out spot free. So I’m definitely looking forward to them hitting the market. Then for the dish soap I used all of my Castile Soap for my hand soap. Once I run out of my dawn dishsoap I will try this recipe out. So look for a blog post later regarding that recipe. Same for the oven cleaner, I’ll try that one once the dish tabs hit the market!

In conclusion this recipe box has been a win! Outside of the recipes I didn’t get to try, the recipes have all been great. I love that its inspired me to make my own soaps. I’m a bit bummed that Simply Earth hasn’t made their own Laundry Detergent Sheets and the ones included in the box were a one time thing. Definitely interested in looking into the sheets now though. In my experience, I have not came across any issues with any of the Simply Earth Essential Oils. So even if you don’t want their extras or are interested in their recipes, the oils themselves are definitely worth the purchase.
